Hand Grenade Drink
Description
The Hand Grenade Drink brings together 1.5 ounces of Midori melon liqueur, 2 ounces of pineapple juice, and equal parts (1 ounce each) of vodka, gin, and white rum. These ingredients are shaken with ice until well chilled, then strained over fresh ice in a Collins or highball glass. The drink gains a bright green hue and a blend of melon sweetness, tropical pineapple acidity, and the warming, sharp notes of three different spirits. Garnishing with pineapple leaves or melon balls adds an attractive tropical finish.
Preparation involves shaking to chill and combine flavors, ensuring a smooth, refreshing texture typical of shaken cocktails. While traditionally served over ice, the recipe includes variations for serving by the pitcher for larger groups or as a frozen cocktail using a blender or freezer methods, permitting customization based on occasion or preference.
Handling advice includes experimenting with ingredient ratios, as bartenders often vary the components, and offers substitution suggestions for Midori with similar melon liqueurs such as Bul. Non-alcoholic adaptations can be attempted using melon liqueur essences and non-alcoholic spirits alongside fizzy sodas, though the alcoholic base remains dominant.
The Hand Grenade Drink's balance of tropical fruit juice, multiple spirits, and shake-style preparation gives it a distinctive flavor and presentation that fits festive occasions or complex cocktail menus.

Notes
- Variations of this cocktail exist among bartenders, so you can adjust ratios and ingredients to taste.
- To serve by the pitcher for 8-10 people, chill ingredients well, combine in a pitcher, refrigerate until use, then stir and serve over ice with pineapple garnishes.
- You can serve the cocktail frozen by blending ingredients with ice or freezing the mixture to create a slush-like texture.
- Midori is a melon-flavored liqueur; if unavailable, use a similar melon liqueur like Bul.
- Non-alcoholic versions can be attempted using melon flavor essences, non-alcoholic spirits, and sodas, but the original is strongly alcoholic.
