Harissa Whipped Feta

Harissa Whipped Feta is a creamy, tangy dip made by blending feta cheese with Greek yogurt, infused with bright lemon and pungent garlic, and complemented by the smoky heat of harissa paste. The whipped texture makes it smooth and spreadable, ideal for serving as a flavorful accompaniment to bread, vegetables, or grilled meats. The recipe allows versatility in presentation, either stirred together or with harissa oil drizzled on top.

Description

This Harissa Whipped Feta dip starts by processing feta and Greek yogurt until smooth to achieve a creamy, spreadable consistency. The addition of grated garlic and fresh lemon juice and zest adds freshness and a slight tang to balance the salty richness of the cheese. Harissa paste, a chili pepper-based condiment, brings a smoky, layered heat to the mix, either incorporated fully or served as a drizzle with olive oil to allow control over spice intensity.

The dip’s creamy texture contrasts nicely when paired with crisp breads, raw vegetables, or used as a sauce for grilled dishes. It is best enjoyed fresh but will keep in the refrigerator for a few days, making it a convenient option for entertaining or small meals.

The method is straightforward, requiring only a food processor and minimal ingredients, making it accessible for cooks looking to add a vibrant, textured element to their meal or appetizer offerings.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 feta cheese 8 ounce block
  • ¼ cup yogurt plain, Greek
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil divided
  • 1 clove garlic grated
  • 1/2 lemon juiced
  • 1/2 lemon zested
  • 3 tablespoons harissa paste

Instructions

  1. Break the feta into small cubes and place them in the food processor with the Greek yogurt and 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
  2. Process on high speed until the feta is smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes.
  3. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  4. Next add the garlic, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Pulse to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. In a small bowl, stir together the harissa paste and the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
  6. There are two great ways to serve this dip - either add the harissa to the feta dip and pulse to combine or transfer the feta dip to a serving bowl and drizzle with the harissa oil. Up to you!
  7. Enjoy immediately and store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
