Hash Brown Recipe
Description
The Hash Brown Recipe starts by peeling and shredding russet potatoes. The shredded potatoes are soaked briefly in cold water to remove some starch, improving crispness after cooking. After thorough drying, the potatoes are layered in a buttered skillet and cooked over medium heat until browned on both sides. This method creates a balance between a crunchy crust and a soft, tender center. Basic seasoning with salt and black pepper enhances the potato flavor, while optional spices like cayenne and paprika introduce gentle heat and additional color. This dish works well as a breakfast staple or a side to complement any meal.
Ingredients
- 2 russet potato
- 3 tbsp butter
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Peel potatoes, rinse and shred with a cheese grater. Get rid some of the starch by placing potatoes in a large bowl filled with cold water.
- Drain potatoes and pat dry with paper towels, making sure to get out any excess moisture.
- Add butter to your skillet and let melt on medium heat. Add potatoes to the dish in a layer and let cook until browned (about 5 minutes) and then flip and cook on the other side.
- Season with salt and pepper. To add spice, add a bit of cayenne pepper and paprika.
