Hasselback Sweet Potatoes
Description
Hasselback Sweet Potatoes are prepared by slicing sweet potatoes thinly along their length while keeping the base intact. This allows seasonings to penetrate between slices during roasting. The potatoes are brushed with a blend of olive oil and melted butter, seasoned with salt and pepper, then baked at 400 degrees until tender with browned, crispy edges.
The texture contrasts between crispy outer edges of the slices and the soft interior create a layered effect. The sweet, roasted flavor is enhanced by optional toppings such as fresh herbs, garlic butter, brown sugar, pecans, or marshmallows added after baking, which introduce savory, sweet, or crunchy elements.
The recipe suggests choosing similarly sized sweet potatoes for even cooking and recommends using a sharp paring knife for precise slicing. These potatoes make an attractive, flavorful side dish that pairs well with roasted meats or can be served alone.

- In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, butter, salt and pepper.
- Brush the olive oil mixture all over the sweet potatoes, making sure to get some in between the slices.

- Add toppings of your choice such as chopped fresh herbs, a pat of garlic butter, brown sugar or pecans. Serve and enjoy.
Notes
- Choose sweet potatoes of similar size and shape to ensure they cook evenly.
- Use a sharp paring knife for precise, even slices without cutting through the entire potato.
- Applying toppings like fresh herbs or brown sugar after baking adds extra flavor and texture.
