Hawaiian Ham & Swiss Cheese Sliders
Description
This recipe uses a dozen Hawaiian sweet rolls sliced horizontally but kept connected to maintain the sandwich structure. The bottom halves are spread with mayonnaise and layered with slices of deli ham, Swiss cheese, and pineapple rings before topping with the upper halves of the rolls. A glaze made from melted butter, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, garlic powder, and poppy seeds is brushed over the assembled sliders to infuse the toppings with a flavorful, slightly sweet crust.
Baking the sliders in a casserole dish at 375°F melts the cheese and caramelizes the glaze on top, creating a cohesive and delicious group of sliders with soft insides and a slightly browned exterior. The pineapple adds moisture and a subtle sweetness that balances the savory ham and cheese. These sliders work well as an appetizer or a main dish.
They can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance, refrigerated, and baked just before serving, with an additional baking time of 10 minutes if chilled.
Ingredients
- 12 count Hawaiian sweet rolls
- 12 lices ham deli-style
- 12 lices swiss cheese
- 12 pineapple rings
- ¼ cup mayonnaise I used reduced fat
- 4 tablespoons butter melted
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons poppy seeds
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees and lightly grease a 9-inch baking dish or similar sized casserole dish.
- Slice rolls crosswise so that the rolls are split in half. (Do not separate the rolls, they should all still be connected when you slice them so that the bottom halves stay connected and the top halves stay connected)
- Spread mayo over the bottom halves. Top with ham slices, then swiss cheese, and then pineapple slices. Top with the top halves of the rolls
- In a small bowl whisk together melted butter, dijon mustard, brown sugar, garlic powder, and poppy seeds. Brush mixture over the sandwiches.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes until cheese is melty and sliders are browned on top.
Notes
- These sliders can be assembled in advance and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before baking.
- If baking after refrigeration, increase baking time by 10 minutes to ensure cheese melts fully and the sliders heat through.
