Hawaiian Pulled Pork Sliders

Hawaiian Pulled Pork Sliders feature slow-cooked pork butt seasoned with a blend of spices and pineapple juice for tender, flavorful meat. The pulled pork is mixed with barbecue sauce and pineapple tidbits, then layered on soft Hawaiian dinner rolls topped with pepper jack cheese and a buttery sesame sauce. Optional toppings add crunch and extra flavor, creating a balanced sweet and savory slider perfect for gatherings or casual meals.

Description

The Hawaiian Pulled Pork Sliders combine tender, slow-cooked pork shoulder infused with pineapple juice and a spice mix including paprika, cayenne, and brown sugar, producing a mildly sweet and smoky meat. After cooking low and slow for up to 10 hours, the pork is shredded and combined with barbecue sauce and pineapple pieces, bringing a juicy contrast to the rich pork. The sliders are assembled on soft Hawaiian dinner rolls spread with a butter sauce made of melted butter, sesame seeds, garlic, soy sauce, and ginger, enhancing the flavor with nutty and aromatic notes.

The contrast between the tender pulled pork, melted pepper jack cheese, and the slightly sweet rolls provides a satisfying texture and taste balance. Optional toppings such as shredded cabbage or fried onions add a fresh crunch. These sliders are suited for both casual parties and family meals, delivering a blend of savory, sweet, and mildly spicy elements.

When preparing, placing the pork fat-side up in the slow cooker helps distribute flavor as it renders. Leftover pork can be kept refrigerated and used later to make more sliders or other dishes. The buttery sesame sauce can be whisked together quickly and evenly coats the rolls before baking to add richness and moisture to the sandwich.

  • 12 Hawaiian dinner roll
  • 4 lices pepper jack cheese

Optional toppings:

  • onion french fried or red onion

Instructions

  1. If you have leftover pulled pork in the fridge, you can skip slow cooking the pork and jump right to making the sliders.

To prepare the pulled pork:

  1. Place pork in slow cooker. ***Place the pork in fatty side up to let the fat flavor drip into the meat.*** Cover pork with all dry ingredients. Pour the pineapple juice around the pork. 4-5 pounds pork butt or shoulder, 1/2 tablespoon salt, 1/2 tablespoon black pepper, 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder, 1 tablespoon paprika, 1/2 tablespoon onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar, 12 ounces pineapple juice
  2. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the pork is shreddable. Shred the pork and then make the sliders.

Make the sliders:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350º Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, seeds, garlic, brown sugar, soy sauce and ginger. Whisk well. 1/2 cup salted butter, 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, 1 teaspoon minced garlic, 1 teaspoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon soy sauce, ¼ teaspoon ginger
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the pulled pork and barbecue sauce. Mix well. You can skip this step if it already has bbq sauce on it. 3 cups pulled pork, ⅔ cup barbecue sauce
  4. Use a large serrated knife to slice the rolls in half, separating the tops from the bottoms. Place the bottom of the rolls onto the prepared baking pan. Brush a few tablespoons of the butter mixture onto the bottom of the rolls.
  5. Layer the pulled pork over the rolls. Sprinkle the pineapple tidbits over the pork. Top with sliced pepper jack cheese. Place the tops of the rolls onto the sandwiches. Brush the remaining butter mixture evenly over the rolls. Cover the rolls loosely with foil. ½ cup pineapple tidbits, 12 Hawaiian dinner rolls, 4 slices pepper jack cheese
  6. Bake in the preheated oven until the rolls are lightly browned and the cheese has melted, about 20 minutes. Then uncover and bake another 3-5 minutes to brown.
  7. Slice into individual slider sandwiches through the pork and cheese layers to serve. Top with coleslaw, cabbage or french fried onions, if desired.

Notes

  • For best flavor, place the pork fat-side up in the slow cooker to allow the fat to baste the meat as it cooks.
  • Leftover pulled pork can be refrigerated and used later for making sliders or other meals.
  • Mix the butter sauce ingredients thoroughly to evenly coat the Hawaiian rolls before baking for added flavor and moisture.
