Healthier Homemade Vegan Teriyaki Sauce

This healthier homemade vegan teriyaki sauce combines low-sodium soy sauce, pure maple syrup, balsamic vinegar, and ginger for a balanced, slightly sweet glaze. Thickened with a cornstarch slurry, it offers a glossy texture suitable for marinating, glazing, or dipping. The sauce is simple to prepare on the stovetop and stores well refrigerated, making it a versatile addition to vegan or plant-based meals.

Description

The recipe blends low-sodium soy sauce for umami with pure maple syrup for natural sweetness and balsamic vinegar for mild acidity, while ground ginger and garlic powder add warmth and depth. The mixture is heated until boiling, then thickened by whisking in a blend of cornstarch and water, which creates a smooth, glossy sauce that clings well to foods.

This vegan teriyaki sauce is adaptable for a variety of dishes, including stir-fries, tofu glazes, or as a dipping sauce for fresh vegetables. Its ingredients keep it free of animal products and lower in sodium compared to some commercial versions.

To maintain freshness, store the sauce in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Homemade versions allow easy customization by adjusting sweetness or ginger intensity to preference, providing a healthier alternative to store-bought teriyaki sauces.
