Healthy Bagels Recipe (Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free)
Description
The recipe starts by mixing gluten-free flour and baking powder, then incorporating dairy-free yogurt and softened butter to form a sticky dough. After resting five minutes to hydrate, the dough is divided into balls, shaped with holes, and sprinkled with a savory seasoning mix. Baking at 400°F for 23 minutes followed by 2 minutes of broiling results in lightly crisped, golden-brown bagels. These have a slightly delicate texture that benefits from toasting before serving to enhance firmness and flavor.
Once cooled, slice and toast the bagels as desired to enjoy with spreads. Because gluten-free doughs often firm up when chilled, letting bagels come to room temperature before slicing helps avoid breakage. The recipe's use of dairy-free ingredients accommodates dietary needs while still producing bagels suitable for breakfast or sandwiches.
Variations in gluten-free flour brands can affect texture, so allowing the dough to rest ensures better hydration and consistency. This recipe makes 5 to 6 bagels depending on size, and the best flavor and texture are achieved when eaten fresh, shortly after baking or reheated.
