Healthy Banana Bread
Description
The Healthy Banana Bread recipe uses three mashed bananas combined with whole wheat flour, ground cinnamon, baking powder, and baking soda to create a well-leavened loaf. The addition of chopped walnuts and dark chocolate chips incorporates crunch and bursts of chocolate flavor throughout. The wet ingredients include eggs, maple syrup, Greek yogurt, and skimmed milk, contributing to the moist, tender texture. Cinnamon adds subtle warmth without overpowering the banana.
The bread is baked in a greased 2lb loaf tin topped with a halved banana for presentation and extra banana flavor on the crust. This bread pairs well with nut butter or jam for breakfast or an afternoon snack.
For convenient portioning, the batter can be divided into muffin tins and baked for a shorter time. Walnuts can be replaced with pecans or peanuts to vary the nutty flavor. Toppings like nut butter or homemade healthier Nutella complement the banana bread well.
