Healthy Ham and Cheese Sliders (High Protein)
Description
The sliders use Hawaiian dinner rolls sliced horizontally and filled with slices of ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese. Mayonnaise is spread on the tops before closing. A sauce combining melted butter, yellow mustard, dry parsley, minced onion, Worcestershire sauce, and poppy seeds is brushed on to add moisture and flavor while baking.
Baking covered briefly melts the cheese and warms the meats, then uncovering allows the tops to lightly brown and toast. The sweetness of the rolls balances the savory meats and cheese, while the poppy seed sauce offers a tangy, herbed finish.
This recipe is suitable for gatherings or easy weeknight meals. It offers a protein-rich option using quality deli meats and light mayonnaise. The rolls give a soft, sweet base that complements the savory fillings and butter sauce.
The sauce ingredients can be mixed ahead. Covering during baking prevents dryness, and uncovering at the end creates a subtle crust. The sliders can be adapted easily by changing breads, meats, or cheeses.
