Healthy Refried Bean Dip (Vegetarian, Gluten-Free)
Description
This dip starts by beating softened cream cheese until smooth then mixing in Greek yogurt, canned refried beans, and packet taco seasoning until combined. Salsa is folded in before transferring the mixture to a sprayed baking dish, topped evenly with Mexican shredded cheese. It bakes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until bubbly and cheese is melted, with an optional broil step to brown the top slightly. Finished with sliced green onions or other toppings, the dip offers creamy textures and layered Mexican-inspired flavors.
The combination of dairy ingredients alongside refried beans and salsa creates a rich and smooth dip, with taco seasoning lending spiced depth. Baking melds the flavors and melts the cheese, yielding a warm dish suitable for dipping. The cheese topping adds a gooey finish that complements the creamy bean base.
This bean dip is well suited as a party appetizer served with tortilla chips. It's vegetarian and gluten-free as prepared, providing a hearty yet approachable snack option. Garnishes like green onion slices add freshness and mild pungency.
For a vegan adaptation, substitute dairy ingredients with plant-based cream cheese, Greek-style yogurt alternatives, and vegan cheese. Baking time and temperature remain the same.
