Hibiscus Tea
Description
This Hibiscus Tea starts with dried hibiscus flowers steeped in filtered cold water until the liquid develops a vivid red color and distinct tart flavor. The cold steeping method preserves the floral notes and acidity without bitterness. After straining out the hibiscus petals, the tea is poured over ice, becoming a cooling and visually striking drink. Sweeteners are optional and can be adjusted to taste using sugar, honey, maple syrup, or agave.
The bright, slightly tart flavor profile is enhanced by fresh garnishes such as mint leaves and fresh raspberries, adding freshness and subtle fruity notes. Served chilled, this hibiscus infusion makes a pleasant, caffeine-free alternative to traditional iced teas and pairs well with light meals or snacks.
For a deeper flavor and color, the hibiscus flowers can steep overnight. Because the preparation requires minimal heating and no cooking, it is quick to prepare if planned ahead. This natural herbal tea also offers versatility as a base for cocktails or mixing with sparkling water.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup dried hibiscus flowers
- 4 cups water cold filtered
- ice for serving
- sweetener such as sugar, maple syrup, honey, or agave, optional, of choice
- 1 mint for garnish, small bunch, fresh
