Homemade Blackening Seasoning Recipe
Description
The seasoning combines smoked or regular paprika, cayenne pepper for mild to medium heat, onion and garlic powders for depth, black pepper and salt for seasoning, plus dried basil, oregano, and thyme for an herbal undertone. When applied to fish, chicken, or meats before searing, this mixture contributes a characteristic blackened crust associated with Cajun-style cooking.
Adjusting the cayenne level can increase spiciness according to preference. The blend can be stored in airtight containers, maintaining freshness for repeated use in various recipes.
