Homemade Bran Flakes
Description
Homemade Bran Flakes combine whole wheat flour, millers bran, ground flaxseed, and salt into a dough moistened with molasses, vegetable oil, and water. After rolling the dough thinly on a buttered baking tray, it is baked at a low temperature until dried and crisp. Adding raisins, dried fruit, nuts, or seeds allows for personalized flavor variations.
The resulting bran flakes are crunchy and fibrous, offering a wholesome breakfast cereal alternative. Their texture is achieved through careful drying rather than high heat, preserving their natural bran flavor enhanced by molasses sweetness.
This homemade approach avoids preservatives found in commercial cereals and allows control over ingredients, including added fruits or nuts for taste and nutrition. The flakes can be stored to keep crispness, making a ready-to-eat cereal or a crunchy garnish.
