Description
This recipe assembles a mix of cereals, crackers, pretzels, and nuts in a large bowl. A melted butter mixture seasoned with Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, and onion powder is poured over and tossed to coat evenly. The coated mix is microwaved in intervals, stirring to ensure even cooking and crisping. Cooling on paper towels helps maintain crunch.
The combination provides a salty, satisfying snack featuring diverse textures from the different crackers and cereals. The seasoned butter mix adds a savory depth that binds the mix together.
While served immediately is best to preserve freshness, the mix keeps up to one week in a sealed container. It’s great for serving at gatherings or for an anytime snack.
Nuts can be omitted or replaced with more crackers and pretzels if allergies are a concern, and colorful goldfish crackers can replace cheese crackers to add a fun visual element for kids.
Ingredients
- 3 cups corn chex cereal
- 3 cups rice chex cereal
- 11/2 cups wheat chex cereal
- 1 1/2 cups oyster crackers
- 1 cup cheese crackers
- 1 cup pretzel twists
- 1 cup mixed nuts
- 6 tablespoons butter melted
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt I highly recommend Penzeys smoky seasoned salt
- 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- Place the cereal, crackers, pretzels and nuts into a large microwave safe bowl.
- Mix together the melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt and onion powder.
- Pour the butter mixture over the cereal and toss to coat evenly.
- Microwave for 5-6 minutes, stirring thoroughly every 2 minutes; then spread onto paper towels to cool.
- Serve immediately or store in a sealed container for up to 1 week.
Notes
- Omit nuts and increase crackers and pretzels equally if allergies require nut-free snacks.
- Substitute colorful goldfish crackers for cheese crackers to make the mix more visually appealing to children.
