Homemade Cocktail Sauce

Homemade Cocktail Sauce is a zesty condiments combining ketchup, chili sauce, prepared horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and hot sauce. Its balance of tang, mild heat, and savory notes enhances seafood dishes, especially shellfish. Chilling the sauce allows the flavors to meld, resulting in a vibrant sauce ready to accompany shrimp or crab.

Description

Homemade Cocktail Sauce blends tomato-based ketchup and chili sauce with horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and a touch of hot sauce. The horseradish provides a sharp, pungent heat balanced by the acidity of lemon and tang of Worcestershire. Cold chilling intensifies the taste and thickens the sauce slightly.

The sauce is smooth and tangy with a spicy kick that complements the natural sweetness of seafood. Mixing all ingredients together and refrigerating for at least an hour allows the flavors to fully develop and marry.

Best served cold alongside shrimp, crab, or other chilled shellfish, it adds a bright and piquant note that enlivens the seafood’s flavor. This sauce also works well as a dip or accompaniment to fried seafood dishes.

Yielding about 1¼ cups, the recipe estimates serving size as 2 to 3 tablespoons per person, making it suitable for small gatherings or family meals.
