Homemade Corn Dogs
Description
This recipe combines a dry mix of all-purpose flour, yellow cornmeal, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar with wet ingredients including egg, honey, and buttermilk to create a cornbread-style batter. The batter is chilled briefly to thicken, then hot dogs that have been dried and skewered on sticks are dipped into the batter ensuring an even coating. They are fried in hot oil heated to 350°F until the exterior crisps to a golden brown, usually within 3 to 4 minutes. After frying, they are drained on paper towels to reduce excess oil before serving.
The result is a crunchy, slightly sweet cornmeal crust encasing savory hot dogs, offering a nostalgic comfort food ideal for casual meals or parties.
