Homemade Creme Fraiche

Homemade Creme Fraiche is a simple cultured cream made by combining heavy cream with cultured buttermilk or sour cream and allowing it to thicken at room temperature. The result is a tangy, thickened cream often used to add richness and acidity to dishes.

Description

This recipe for Homemade Creme Fraiche involves mixing heavy cream with cultured buttermilk or sour cream in a clean container and leaving it covered at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours. During this time, the mixture thickens and develops a mild tangy flavor. Once the desired consistency and taste are reached, it is stirred, covered tightly, and refrigerated for at least six hours or overnight to fully set.

The finished creme fraiche is smooth and thick with a subtle tang, making it ideal to complement both sweet and savory dishes. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. This homemade version provides a fresh alternative to store-bought creme fraiche with control over thickness and flavor.
