Homemade Egg McMuffin Recipe

The Homemade Egg McMuffin recreates the classic breakfast sandwich with toasted English muffins, baked Canadian bacon, oven-cooked eggs, and melted cheddar cheese. It captures the layered textures of a soft muffin, savory ham, tender egg, and cheese all assembled warm.

Description

This recipe involves baking Canadian bacon on a wire rack to develop a light browning, while eggs are cooked directly in a sprayed muffin pan for uniform shape and set yolks. English muffins are split, buttered, and toasted alongside in the oven, allowing all components to finish simultaneously. Assembling the sandwich involves layering cheese on warmed muffins, adding egg, Canadian bacon, and topping with the muffin halves.

The resulting sandwich has a range of textures from the crisp exterior of the muffin to the tender egg and savory pork. It can be served fresh and warm as a satisfying breakfast option.

Assembled sandwiches can be refrigerated for up to three days and reheated in the microwave. For longer storage, wrap individually and freeze for up to three months before reheating.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 6 English Muffin cut in half
  • 1 tablespoon butter softened
  • 6 large egg
  • 6 lices Canadian bacon
  • 6 lices cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400º F. Arrange Canadian Bacon on a wire rack which has been placed on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake until lightly browned, about 15 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, spray a muffin pan with nonstick cooking spray. Break an egg into each of the cups of the muffin pan. Add to the oven the last 10 minutes of cooking time for the bacon. Cook until the yolk has set, about 10 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, split English muffins in half, spread with butter, and arrange on a baking sheet. Add to the bottom rack of the oven the last 10 minutes of cooking time for the bacon.
  4. Remove all from the oven and assemble the Egg McMuffins. Add a slice of cheese to a warm slice of English muffin. Top with an egg followed by a slice of Canadian bacon. Add the other half of the English muffin to the top of the McMuffin and serve warm.
