Homemade French Onion Dip
Description
This dip starts with slowly caramelizing diced yellow onions in butter and salt to develop a deep sweetness and soft texture. Incorporating sour cream and mayonnaise creates a smooth, creamy base, while garlic powder, onion powder, sugar, and black pepper balance the savory notes.
Adding fresh minced chives imparts mild oniony brightness, and crumbled cooked bacon introduces a smoky crunch contrast. Cooling the mixture allows flavors to meld, enhancing the overall taste and texture.
Serve chilled with chips, crackers, or vegetables for dipping. Its blend of sweet caramelized onions and creamy tanginess complements salty snacks well, and the bacon garnish adds visual appeal and savory depth.
Portion estimates suggest this dip serves roughly six people, though quantity can be adjusted. Preparation ahead is possible as chilling intensifies flavor.
