Homemade Guacamole

This homemade guacamole combines mashed avocado with diced red onion, bell pepper, jalapeño, tomato, garlic, cilantro, lime juice, sugar, and hot sauce. The result is a fresh and creamy dip with a balance of tang, mild heat, and herbaceous notes. Lime juice helps maintain vibrant color while enhancing flavor.

Description

The guacamole starts by mashing ripe avocados to a desired smoothness or leaving some texture. Chopped red onion, bell pepper, jalapeño (seeded for milder heat), tomato, garlic, and cilantro are folded into the creamy base. Lime juice contributes brightness and prevents browning, while a small amount of sugar balances acidity. Hot sauce adds a subtle spiciness tailored to taste.

This guacamole is well-suited as a dip or topping for tacos, chips, or grilled dishes. Its freshness and varied textures come from the combination of smooth avocado and crisp, diced vegetables. Adjust heat levels by modifying jalapeño and hot sauce amounts.

If storing, keep guacamole covered in the refrigerator and use within 2-3 days for optimal freshness and color retention due to the lime juice.
