Homemade Guacamole Recipe
Description
Fresh ripe avocados are scooped and roughly mashed with salt, lime juice, minced garlic, black pepper, and optional red pepper flakes to introduce a mild spice. The addition of finely diced sweet onion, minced jalapeño, seeded chopped tomato, and chopped cilantro leaves brings crunch, brightness, and herbal notes. The mixture is stirred gently to preserve some avocado texture and balanced seasoning.
The guacamole is best served immediately to maintain vibrant color, but can be covered tightly with plastic wrap placed directly on its surface to minimize browning if refrigerated briefly. Garnishing with extra cilantro, tomatoes, or jalapeño adds appeal and freshness.
Ingredients
- 4-5 avocado ripe
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt or to taste
- 1 tablespoon lime juice if needed add more, fresh
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
- black pepper or to taste, freshly grated
- 1/4 cup sweet onion finely diced
- 1 jalapeño stems and seeds removed and finely minced
- 1 cherry tomato seeds, and pulp removed, chopped, ripe medium
- 2 tablespoons cilantro finely chopped, leaves
Instructions
- Cut the avocados in half and remove the seed.
- Score the inside of the avocado with a blunt knife and scoop out the flesh with a spoon into a large bowl.
- Add salt, a pinch of black pepper, minced garlic, pepper flakes, and lime juice.
- Using a fork, roughly mash the avocado, making sure you leave some avocado chunks.
- Add the finely diced onion, jalapeno, tomato, and cilantro leaves. Gently stir, being careful not to crush the avocado chunks further.
- Taste and adjust for salt, pepper, and lime juice. If preferred, add more pepper flakes or a touch of hot sauce. Adjust the recipe to your taste.
- Serve immediately if possible. If not, place plastic wrap on the surface of the guacamole to cover it. This will prevent air from reaching it and turning brown. Refrigerate until ready to serve, but for best results, serve within a few hours.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro, some diced tomatoes, and jalapeno.
