Homemade Ketchup
Description
Homemade Ketchup starts with canned tomato paste and tomato sauce enhanced by a combination of light brown sugar and granulated sugar balanced by apple cider vinegar. Seasonings include salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, with optional cinnamon and crushed red pepper for subtle warm and heat notes. Simmering the mixture thickens the sauce and harmonizes the flavors.
The result is a smooth, richly flavored ketchup adaptable for dipping, sandwiches, and cooking. Sweetness and spice levels can be adjusted during preparation to suit dietary needs or taste preferences.
Stored in the refrigerator in a glass container, this ketchup retains freshness for about two weeks. For longer storage, freezing in ice cube trays allows easy portioning and thawing for later use.
