Homemade Pita Chips Recipe

Homemade pita chips are crisped wedges of pita bread brushed with olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt and optional sumac for a citrusy tang. Baked until golden, these chips offer a crunchy snack ideal for pairing with dips like hummus or mast o khiar, providing a versatile and flavorful accompaniment or appetizer.

Description

This recipe transforms pita bread into crispy chips by brushing both sides with extra virgin olive oil and seasoning with sea salt and optional sumac, a spice that adds a mild lemony flavor. The pita is cut into wedges and baked at 375°F until golden brown and crunchy. The process is straightforward and yields a light, crunchy texture suitable for dipping or snacking.

The chips can be served alongside a variety of dips such as hummus, baba ganoush, or tzatziki, adding a textural contrast to creamy or smooth accompaniments. Alternatively, they can be fried in vegetable oil until golden for a different texture, though baking offers a lighter option.

Storing pita bread properly in sealed bags keeps it fresh for a few days, and spices like zaatar, turmeric, paprika, garlic, oregano, or cayenne can replace or complement sumac to vary the flavor profile of these chips.
