Homemade Rustic No Yeast Bread

This Rustic No Yeast Bread is a quick, dense loaf made from all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and lukewarm water. Kneaded briefly and baked in a scored loaf shape, it relies on baking powder as a leavening agent instead of yeast. The crust develops a golden finish during baking, resulting in bread with a firm texture and straightforward flavor.

Description

Homemade Rustic No Yeast Bread uses simple pantry ingredients, including flour, a touch of sugar and salt, baking powder as a chemical leavening agent, and lukewarm water. The mixture is combined and gently kneaded just until smooth, then shaped into a loaf with shallow scoring on top. The bread is baked initially at a higher temperature for a crusty exterior, then at a lower temperature to finish cooking inside evenly.

The resulting loaf has a slightly dense crumb and firm crust, lacking the airy qualities of yeast bread but offering a rustic texture and mild flavor suitable for sandwiches or as a side with soups.

A tip from the notes suggests adding olive oil to the dough to potentially soften the crumb. Variations in oven temperature, flour types, and water can affect the final outcome, making this bread somewhat variable but reliable with the described method.
