Homemade Sazon Seasoning Recipe
Description
The recipe combines equal parts of ground coriander, cumin, anatto seed or turmeric, garlic powder, kosher salt, and oregano with black pepper. These spices are mixed thoroughly and stored in an airtight container for convenience.
Each 1½ teaspoons of this mixture provides the equivalent seasoning strength of a standard sazon packet, commonly used in Latin American and Caribbean cuisines to add color and seasoning to meats, rice, soups, and stews.
This spice blend offers a homemade alternative to pre-packaged sazon, allowing control over ingredients and salt levels.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander
- 1 tablespoon cumin ground
- 1 tablespoon anatto seed achiote; or turmeric
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon kosher salt
- 2 teaspoons oregano
- 1 tsp black pepper ground
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients and mix well.
- Store in an airtight container.
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of this mix equals one packet of commercial sazon.
