Homemade Sprinkles
Description
This recipe turns fondant leftovers into decorative sprinkles by kneading in optional food coloring and rolling the fondant thin on an icing sugar dusted surface. Using piping nozzles or different cutters, small sprinkle shapes are cut out and collected by letting them build up in the nozzle before tipping out. The shaped sprinkles are left to dry several hours until they become firm and dry to the touch.
The sprinkles can be tailored in size and color to match any decorating theme. Their texture is slightly chewy once dried, and they keep well when stored airtight at room temperature for months. They provide a homemade alternative to store-bought sprinkles for decorating baked goods.
This approach encourages waste reduction by using fondant scraps efficiently and gives creative freedom to produce sprinkles in custom colors and shapes. Handling the fondant gently is key to achieving even colors and smooth shapes.
