Homemade Steak Seasoning
Description
This homemade seasoning mixes coarsely ground black pepper, granulated garlic, onion powder, dried parsley, kosher salt, dried rosemary, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes. Combining these spices creates a flavorful dry rub that enhances the taste of steaks without overwhelming their natural flavor.
The seasoning can be applied immediately or stored in a labeled jar for future use. It is especially useful for imparting a smoky, herbaceous, and slightly spicy character that works well with various cooking methods such as grilling, roasting, or pan-searing.
This blend is suited for about three to four steaks depending on size, but can be scaled up as needed. Using it consistently can create a reliable seasoning profile for home-cooked steak dishes.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon black pepper coarsely ground
- 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon parsley dried
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon rosemary dried
- ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Combine the black pepper, granulated garlic, granulated onion, dried parsley, kosher salt, dried rosemary, smoked paprika and red pepper flakes in a small bowl. (You can also do this in a small mason jar.)
- Stir them all together until evenly distributed.
- Use immediately on steaks, or funnel the dry rub into a mason jar or spice jar. Don’t forget to add a label with the date you made it.
Notes
- Adjust the quantity to season 3 to 4 steaks depending on their size; doubling or tripling the recipe is easy.
- Store the blend in a sealed container and label with the preparation date for freshness tracking.
