Homemade Taco Seasoning
Description
The Homemade Taco Seasoning consists of common Mexican-style spices combined to create a versatile blend. Chili powder provides a deep, smoky heat, cumin lends earthiness, garlic and onion powders add aromatics, and the crushed red pepper adjusts heat level. Salt and sugar balance the flavors, while optional flour adds thickness for sauces, and beef bouillon granules contribute savory depth.
Combining and grinding these ingredients produces a uniform seasoning suitable for seasoning taco meat, beans, or chili. It allows control over spiciness and salt content compared to commercial mixes.
This dry seasoning blend can be stored airtight and used as a convenient base for taco dishes or other Mexican-inspired meals that call for a flavorful and well-rounded spice mix.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 3 tablespoons chili powder
- ½ teaspoon crushed dried red pepper or more according to desired heat level, or cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2½ teaspoons salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic dried, minced
- 2 teaspoons cumin
- 1 tablespoon beef bouillon granules
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a coffee/spice grinder (optional but recommended), grind for about 30 seconds, and store in an airtight jar, bag, or container until ready to use. This recipe roughly equals one pouch of store bought chili or taco seasoning mix.
