Instructions

  1. Peel and finely chop ¼ onion. Grate 1 dill pickle on a hand grater (small holes).
  2. Put the onion and grated pickle in a bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients: 1 Tablespoon pickle juice, 4 Tablespoons mayonnaise, and 1 teaspoon yellow mustard. Season with ¼ teaspoon salt and ⅛ teaspoon ground pepper.
  3. Mix everything until combined. Leave the tartar sauce to sit in the fridge for a few minutes.
  4. Taste and if necessary, add a little more salt to your liking. Stir and serve.

Notes

  • The basic recipe makes 2 fair servings.
  • Serve cold with fish fillets, fried fish sticks or fish fingers, crab cakes, and other seafood dishes, as well as roasted veggies.
  • Keep leftovers of tartar sauce in an airtight container and refrigerate. It should remain good for a couple of days but at least for one week.
  • Add a spoonful of full-fat plain Greek yogurt or sour cream to lighten the dip and save some calories.
