Homemade Tater Tots

Homemade Tater Tots use a mix of mashed and shredded russet potatoes blended with Parmesan, parsley, onion, and seasonings to create small cylinders cooked to crispy golden perfection, typically in an air fryer. They offer a crunchy exterior and tender potato interior, ideal for serving warm with ketchup or dips.

Description

This recipe for Homemade Tater Tots starts with boiling peeled, quartered russet potatoes until tender. Half of the potatoes are mashed while the rest are shredded using a box grater. The combination provides a balance between binding and texture. These potatoes are mixed with minced onion, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped fresh parsley, all-purpose flour, olive oil, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper to form a flavorful dough.

The tots are shaped by tablespoonfuls into small cylinders and cooked in an air fryer at 400°F until golden brown and crispy, usually 7-9 minutes per batch. The air fryer method creates a crunchy outer texture while keeping the interior soft and fluffy. Alternatively, the tots can be baked at 425°F for 20-25 minutes or deep fried in oil at 375°F for 3-5 minutes to achieve similar results.

Homemade tater tots are served warm, often with ketchup or other dipping sauces. The Parmesan and parsley add savory and fresh notes to the traditional potato flavor. These tots work well as a side dish or snack requiring some preparation but resulting in satisfying crispy bites.
