Homemade Velveeta Cheese

This Homemade Velveeta Cheese recipe combines shredded mild cheddar cheese with gelatin, dry milk powder, and boiling water, blended into a smooth mixture and chilled until set. It yields a creamy, sliceable cheese alternative with a chewy texture similar to processed cheese.

Description

The preparation begins by dissolving unflavored gelatin and dry milk powder in boiling water using a blender. Shredded cheddar is then pureed into this mixture to create a homogeneous blend. The mixture is then poured into a lined loaf pan and refrigerated for at least 12 hours to solidify.

The resulting set cheese slices easily and provides a mild cheddar flavor with a smooth, elastic consistency. This homemade version can be used similarly to commercial processed cheese in recipes requiring melting or slicing.

When properly wrapped, the cheese will keep in the refrigerator for up to one month, allowing for extended use. Portions can be cut and used as needed.

Ingredients

Servings
  • ¼ ounce gelatin unflavored, packet
  • 6 tablespoons milk powder dry
  • 1 cup water boiling
  • 16 ounces mild cheddar cheese shredded

Instructions

  1. Line a small loaf pan with plastic wrap, covering all sides and leaving excess to hang over the sides.
  2. Place the unflavored gelatin and dry milk powder in a blender or food processor (I used my blender). Pour the boiling water over top and immediately pulse to combine. Add the cheddar cheese and puree the mixture until smooth.
  3. Immediately pour and scrape the cheese mixture into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing it into an even layer with a spatula. Fold the excess plastic wrap over the cheese, pressing it against the surface of the cheese, ensuring that it is completely covered. Refrigerate for at least 12 hours, until set. The cheese will keep in the refrigerator, tightly wrapped in plastic wrap, for up to 1 month.

Notes

  • Refrigerate the cheese wrapped tightly for up to one month to maintain freshness.
  • Ensure the gelatin and dry milk powder are fully dissolved in boiling water before blending with cheese for a smooth texture.
