Ingredients

Servings
  • 10 pound spiral-cut ham
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325℉. Remove the plastic disc on the cut side of the ham if there is one. Add the ham to a large roasting pan or 9”x13” with the cut side down. Cover tightly with foil.
  2. Bake ham for 10-14 minutes per pound for a fully cooked ham or until internal temp reaches 110 degrees F. (for a 10 pound ham this takes about 2 hours)
  3. When the ham has about 30 minutes left of baking time, combine brown sugar, orange juice, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves in a small saucepan. Simmer over medium heat, whisking frequently, until sugar is dissolved and glaze is thickened, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Remove the ham from the oven. Uncover it and add glaze to the ham. Return the ham to the oven and continue to bake, uncovered, until internal temperature reaches 145℉.
  5. Remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.

Notes

  • Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container and eat within 4 days of baking.
  • Freeze leftover ham in an airtight freezer bag and store up to a month. Thaw in the refrigerator and then heat leftovers on the stovetop or in the oven, covered with foil to retain moisture.
  • Serving Size: You should plan for about ¾-1 lb of ham per person.
  • Choose a Ham. A bone-in ham, spiral cut ham is what we used for this recipe. Any meat with the bone is usually the most flavorful. Choose a fully cooked ham. If you purchase a ham that needs to be cooked, baking time will need to be adjusted.
  • Use a meat thermometer to monitor the temperature and to prevent overbaking which will cause the ham to be dry. Internal temperature should be 140-145 degrees.
  • To make a more crispy glaze, increase the oven temperature to 400℉ for the last 15 minutes or so. This causes the sugars in the glaze to caramelize.
  • Letting the ham rest after baking results in a juicy, flavorful ham. Do not leave the ham at room temperature for more than 2 hours after baking.
  • If ham isn’t pre-cooked, it should be baked until the internal temp is 160℉.
