Honey Beer Bread

Honey Beer Bread combines flour, baking powder, salt, beer, and honey to create a loaf with tender crumb and mild sweetness. Melted butter coats the top and bottom, adding richness and a golden crust. The beer's natural carbonation helps leaven the bread, resulting in a slightly airy texture ideal for serving with butter or honey.

Description

Honey Beer Bread is a quick bread mix combining all-purpose flour with baking powder and salt for leavening and seasoning. Beer adds moisture and natural yeast activity, contributing to the dough's rise and flavor. Honey sweetens the loaf gently without overpowering it.

After mixing, the batter is poured into a buttered loaf pan, with additional melted butter brushed on top to encourage browning and a soft crust. The bread bakes at 350°F until a toothpick inserted comes out clean, typically 45 to 50 minutes.

The resulting bread is moderately dense with a tender crumb, suitable for serving warm with butter or drizzled honey. It makes a versatile accompaniment to soups, stews, or breakfast spreads.

This recipe can be doubled to make two loaves. Slight variations in beer type will subtly alter flavor and crumb texture. Cooling the bread slightly before slicing helps maintain its structure.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 12 oz beer (your favorite kind)
  • 5 Tbsp honey
  • 3 - 4 Tbsp butter divided, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly spray the sides of a 9x5" loaf pan. Set aside.
  2. To a mixing bowl, add flour, baking powder and salt, and stir to combine. Pour in the beer and honey and stir until no flour streaks remain.
  3. Add half of the melted butter to the bottom of prepared loaf pan and tilt the pan around so the butter coats the bottom of the pan. Transfer batter to pan, spreading it out into an even layer.
  4. Pour remaining half of the melted butter over the top of the batter, brushing it around so it evenly coats the top.
  5. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
  6. Let bread cool in the pan for 5-7 minutes, then turn out carefully onto a wire rack to finish cooling.

Notes

  • This recipe can be doubled to bake two loaves at once.
  • Serve the bread warm with extra butter or honey for added richness.
  • Choose your preferred beer style to subtly influence flavor and texture.
