Honey Garlic Chicken Bites
Description
The Honey Garlic Chicken Bites combine bite-sized chicken breast cubes coated in eggs and panko crumbs, baked until golden and crisp. The accompanying honey garlic sauce is a blend of minced garlic, honey, soy sauce, Thai sweet chili sauce, water, and cornstarch cooked gently to achieve a slightly thickened glaze. Tossing the chicken in this sauce adds a sticky, flavorful coating that complements the crunchy texture with a balance of sweetness, saltiness, and a hint of chili kick. The garnish of white sesame seeds and fresh scallions adds texture and bright notes.
This dish works well served immediately as a finger food or appetizer and can also accompany steamed rice or vegetables for a casual meal. The baking method helps reduce oiliness compared to frying, making the bites lighter but still crisp.
Flipping the chicken halfway through baking promotes even browning. Be careful not to overbake to maintain a juicy center. The sauce should be gently heated until slightly thick to avoid separating. Serve as soon as possible after coating to keep the coating crisp.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 grams) chicken breast pat dry and cut into cubes, boneless and skinless
- salt
- black pepper ground
- 2 egg beaten, large
- 1 cup panko or breadcrumbs
- white sesame seeds for garnishing
- scallions or chives, for garnishing, chopped
Honey Garlic Sauce:
- 2 cloves garlic finely minced
- 4 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons Thai sweet chili sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Season the chicken with salt and black pepper. Coat each piece with the beaten eggs, then roll in the panko, ensuring each piece is nicely coated.
- Transfer the chicken to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 12–15 minutes, or until the chicken turns golden brown. You may want to flip the pieces halfway through to ensure even browning.
- Mix all the ingredients for the sauce in a small saucepan. Whisk to combine well, then cook on low heat until the sauce slightly thickens.
- Transfer the chicken to a bowl and add the sauce mixture. Gently toss to coat. Garnish with white sesame seeds and scallions or chives, and serve immediately.
