Honey Garlic Chicken Bites
Description
This recipe starts by coating chicken breast pieces with cornstarch and seasonings. The chicken is pan-fried in butter until cooked through and lightly crisped. A sauce made from crushed garlic, olive oil, honey, lemon juice, soy sauce, and hot sauce is added to the pan and cooked down until thick and sticky, coating each chicken bite thoroughly.
The balance of honey's sweetness with the garlic’s pungency, lemon’s brightness, and soy sauce’s saltiness creates a layered flavor profile. The hot sauce adds a subtle heat. Cooking the sauce longer intensifies stickiness and flavor. Serving suggestions include rice, pasta, or steamed vegetables, making it a versatile protein dish.
Leftovers can be refrigerated in airtight containers for up to four days or frozen for up to three months. While freezing may reduce crispiness, the flavors remain enjoyable upon reheating.
Ingredients
- 1.5 pound chicken breast chopped into bite-size pieces
- 1/4 cup corn starch
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes each
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 5-6 cloves garlic crushed or minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce or sriracha
Instructions
- Pat down chicken with paper towel. In a large bowl combine the chicken, cornstarch, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, salt & pepper. Stir to combine.
- Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large heavy-duty pan over medium-high heat. Add chicken to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until cooked through.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the garlic, olive oil, honey, lemon juice, soy sauce, and hot sauce.
- Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and cook another 4-5 minutes or until the sauce has thickened and the chicken is cooked through. The longer you cook it the stickier and thicker the sauce will become.
- Serve over rice, or pasta, or with veggies.
Notes
- Keep leftovers refrigerated in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days.
- Freeze leftover chicken in airtight containers for up to 3 months; texture may soften after freezing but taste remains good.
