Honey Garlic Sauce for Wings
Description
The preparation starts by seasoning chicken wings (including drumettes) with a blend of kosher salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika, ensuring even flavor coating. The wings bake at a high temperature to reach a safe internal temperature while developing lightly crisp skin.
Meanwhile, a sauce is simmered on the stove combining honey, water, soy sauce, minced garlic, fresh or paste ginger, cornstarch for thickening, and red pepper flakes for subtle heat. This sauce becomes a thick, shiny glaze that clings to the wings.
Once the wings are cooked, they are tossed generously in the sauce to coat fully. Serving shortly after preserves the sauce's sticky texture. The wings offer a blend of sweet honey, aromatic garlic and ginger, smoky paprika seasoning, and a bit of heat from chili flakes, well balanced and approachable.
Ingredients
Wings
- 2 pounds chicken wings includes wings and drumettes
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt coarse
- 1 teaspoon black pepper ground
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
Honey Garlic Wing Sauce
- ½ cup honey
- ⅓ cup water
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger or ginger paste, fresh
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes chili
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F.
- Place the wings in a large mixing bowl.
- Season the wings with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika.
- Toss to coat so that all of the wings are coated with the seasoning.
- Place the seasoned wings on a parchment-lined baking sheet leaving a little space between the wings.
- Bake for 35 minutes or until the internal temperature reads 165°F.
- While the wings are in the oven, make the sauce.
- Add honey, water, soy sauce, minced garlic, ginger, cornstarch, and chili flakes to a saucepan. Whisk until smooth.
- Heat over medium heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, whisking occasionally.
- Remove from the sauce from the heat and set aside until the wings are done.
- Once the wings are fully cooked, add them to a large, clean mixing bowl and pour the sauce over them. Toss to coat.
- Once the wings are fully coated in the sauce, serve, and enjoy!
Notes
- Ginger paste can be used instead of fresh grated ginger for convenience; it is typically available near minced garlic in grocery stores.
