Honey Grilled Shrimp Recipe
Description
This recipe features raw, peeled, and deveined shrimp marinated for at least an hour in lime juice, honey, canola oil, garlic, salt, and black pepper. The marinade infuses the shrimp with a sweet and tangy flavor enhanced by the garlic. Wooden skewers soaked in water prevent burning on the grill. Shrimp are skewered and cooked on a medium-high heat barbecue for 3-4 minutes per side, until they turn pink and opaque.
The grilling imparts a slightly charred edge while retaining a moist, firm texture inside. The honey caramelizes but does not overpower the bright lime and garlic notes. This simple preparation highlights the shrimp's natural flavor with added sweetness and acidity.
These grilled shrimp are suitable as an appetizer, protein addition to salads, or main dish served alongside grilled vegetables or rice.
The marinade can be left for longer than one hour for more flavor. Using sugar-free maple syrup instead of honey offers a lower-carb variation.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons lime juice fresh
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 clove garlic finely minced
- 1/2 pound Shrimp I used 24-30's...feel free to use bigger or smaller ones, raw, peeled and deveined
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix all ingredients for the marinade together. Toss in shrimp and stir to coat completely. Transfer entire contents of the bowl into a plastic food storage bag. Seal the bag and refrigerate at least 1 hour. {I marinated mine 3 hours.}
- While the shrimp marinate, soak 3-4 wooden skewers in some water.
- When you are ready to grill, preheat BBQ to medium-high heat. Skewer the shrimp and grill 3-4 minutes per side or until they turn pink and opaque. Serve warm.
Notes
- Marinate shrimp for at least 1 hour; longer marination enhances flavor.
- Soak wooden skewers in water before grilling to prevent burning.
- For a lower carbohydrate option, substitute honey with sugar-free maple syrup.
