Description
The recipe uses flats and drumettes seasoned with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Wings are cooked in an air fryer at 400°F for 18 minutes to achieve crispness. After initial cooking, they are coated with a hot honey glaze—a mixture of honey, sriracha (or hot sauce), cider vinegar, and cayenne pepper—and returned to the air fryer for 2 to 3 minutes to allow the sauce to caramelize slightly and cling to the wings.
The wings are allowed to rest to avoid excessively hot sauce upon serving. This preparation offers a balance between savory garlic seasoning and the sweet, spicy sauce, making these wings flavorful with a sticky finish. An oven-baked variation provides another cooking option using flour and baking powder to crisp the wings.
The hot honey sauce intensity can be adjusted by altering the amount of sriracha and cayenne to taste.
Ingredients
- 1 pound chicken wings flats & drumettes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ cup hot honey *see notes
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Dab the wings dry.
- In a large bowl, toss the wings with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Place the wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 18 minutes.
- After 18 minutes, remove the wings from the air fryer and toss them with hot honey.
- Place a piece of parchment paper or non-stick foil in the bottom of the air fryer basket. Add the sauced wings back in the air fryer basket and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes.
- Let rest a few minutes before serving (the sauce will be very hot right after cooking). Serve with additional hot honey for dipping.
Notes
- For oven baking, coat wings with flour and baking powder, then bake at 425°F, flipping halfway.
- The hot honey sauce can be adjusted in spiciness by changing the sriracha and cayenne amounts.
