Honey Soy Chicken Drumsticks Recipe
Description
The Honey Soy Chicken Drumsticks Recipe involves marinating chicken drumsticks in a blend of sesame oil, honey, soy sauce, sliced onion, garlic, and optional ginger and smoked paprika. After seasoning the chicken with salt and pepper, the marinade is massaged into the drumsticks and left to develop flavor for 30 minutes. Baking uncovered results in nicely browned skin and tender meat. The marinade ingredients work together to create a sweet and umami-rich glaze on the drumsticks.
Baking at 375°F allows the chicken to cook through and the sugars in the honey to caramelize gently, forming flavorful pan juices. The drumsticks finish with a balanced taste of soy saltiness and honey sweetness, with mild hints from garlic and onion. The optional smoked paprika contributes a faint smoky note if included.
This dish is well-suited as a hearty main accompanied by side dishes like rice, steamed vegetables, or salad. The pan juices can be drizzled over the drumsticks or served alongside to enhance moisture and flavor. Garnishing with sliced green onions adds brightness and a fresh element to the presentation.
According to notes, chicken drumsticks are fattier than breast meat, which contributes to moistness after baking. Leftovers can be stored refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for 3 months. The recipe suggests serving 2 drumsticks per person. The pan juices provide a flavorful sauce from the combined cooking liquids and marinade.
Ingredients
- 8 chicken drumstick
- salt to taste, sea salt
- black pepper to taste, sea salt
For the Marinade:
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil or olive oil
- ¼ cup honey
- ⅓ cup soy sauce low-sodium
- 1 onion sliced
- 2 tablespoons garlic chopped
- 2 tablespoons ginger optional, fresh, minced
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika optional
Optional Garnish:
- green onions
Instructions
- Wash and pat dry the drumsticks with a kitchen towel. Place in a 10.6x7-inch baking dish and season with salt and pepper. Preheat oven to 375°F.
- In a medium bowl, combine all marinade ingredients. Pour over chicken and massage for 5 minutes. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and leave 30 minutes to marinate.
- Remove aluminum foil and place the baking dish in the middle of the oven. Cook for 40 minutes until drumsticks are nicely brown.
- Remove from the oven and garnish with green onions. Serve with the pan juices and your favorite side dish.
Notes
- Store leftover chicken drumsticks in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
- Use the pan juices produced during baking as a sauce to drizzle over the drumsticks when serving.
- Consider serving 2 drumsticks per person for a satisfying portion size.
- Because drumsticks contain more fat than breasts, they remain moist and flavorful after baking.
