Honey-Sriracha Chicken Wings Recipe

This recipe for Honey-Sriracha Chicken Wings uses baking powder and smoked paprika to crisp the wings before coating them in a balanced sauce of honey, sriracha, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and garlic. The wings can be cooked in the oven or grilled, offering versatility. The result is wings with a crispy exterior and a glossy, flavorful glaze combining heat and sweetness.

Description

The preparation begins by drying the chicken wings thoroughly and seasoning them with baking powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. This dry rub, optionally allowed to rest in the refrigerator, helps improve skin crispness when cooked. Wings are then either baked in two stages at different oven temperatures or grilled over medium heat until cooked through with crisp skins.

The honey-sriracha sauce is made by simmering sriracha, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, and salt to meld the flavors, then finishing with butter for richness. This sauce is applied to the cooked wings to give a shiny glaze combining sweet, spicy, tangy, and savory notes. The combination of preparation methods and sauce creates wings with a satisfying texture and a complex flavor profile.

Ingredients

Servings

FOR THE CHICKEN WINGS

  • 2 pounds chicken wings separated and wing tips removed
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for extra spicy
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Extra seasonings as desired
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

FOR THE HONEY-SRIRACHA SAUCE

  • 1/2 cup Sriracha sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1.5 teaspoons soy sauce or use up to 2 tablespoons, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or use lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or use 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

PREP THE WINGS

  1. Pat the wings dry with paper towels and set them into a large bowl.
  2. Rub the wings with the baking powder and blend of seasonings.
  3. OPTIONAL: Set the wings into the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow the skins to dry further. This will give you crispier skins.

FOR BAKED CHICKEN WINGS

  1. Heat oven to 250 degrees F. Set the wings onto a lightly oiled baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes.
  2. Increase oven heat to 425 degrees F. Flip the chicken wings and bake another 30 minutes, or until the wings are cooked through and the skins are nice and crispy.

FOR GRILLED CHICKEN WINGS

  1. Heat a lightly oiled grill to medium-heat and grill the wings for 20 minutes, turning once half way through. Keep an eye on them so the wings do not overcook.

FOR THE HONEY-SRIRACHA SAUCE

  1. Whisk together the sriracha, honey, soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and salt to taste in a small pot over medium-low heat.
  2. Simmer for 3-4 minutes to let the flavors combine.
  3. Gently whisk in the butter until it melts through and the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Brush the wings with the sauce and enjoy!
