Hot Chicken Philly Cheesesteak Dip

This Hot Chicken Philly Cheesesteak Dip blends sliced cooked chicken with sautéed onions and green peppers into a creamy mixture with cream cheese, provolone, mayonnaise, and sour cream. Baked until bubbly, it offers a warm, cheesy dip with savory and mild heat notes. The softened cheeses provide richness, while the vegetables soften for a balanced bite. It serves well as a party appetizer or informal snack with bread or crackers for scooping.

Description

The Hot Chicken Philly Cheesesteak Dip uses thinly sliced, quickly grilled chicken seasoned simply with salt and pepper, combined with softened sautéed onions and green peppers. These vegetables are cooked slowly to maximize softness without excessive browning. A mixture of cream cheese, provolone, mayonnaise, and sour cream binds the ingredients to create a rich, creamy texture.

Baking this dip at moderate heat melts the cheeses thoroughly and heats the filling through, resulting in a comforting, indulgent dish with a smooth consistency punctuated by tender chicken and vegetable pieces. The provolone adds a mild smoky flavor complementing the rest of the dairy components.

This dip is suitable for casual occasions and pairs well with sliced baguette, crackers, or raw vegetables for dipping. Its moderate seasoning allows it to be approachable for various palates.

The recipe adaptation notes provide the basis for this dish, emphasizing the importance of cooking the chicken quickly over high heat for tenderness and using light versions of mayonnaise, sour cream, and cream cheese to control richness without sacrificing creaminess.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 ounces chicken cutlets thin sliced
  • 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
  • black pepper to taste
  • cooking spray
  • 1 cup onion diced
  • 1 cup green pepper diced
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise light
  • 1/2 cup sour cream light
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened, light
  • 4 oz provolone cheese mild, shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Season chicken with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Spray a grill pan or large skillet with cooking spray and cook chicken on high heat about 1 minute on each side, until cooked through.
  3. Slice thin, set aside.
  4. Spray with more oil and saute onions and peppers over medium-low heat for 5 to 6 minutes, until soft.
  5. Combine all the ingredients in a medium bowl.
  6. Place in an oven-proof dish and bake 20-25 minutes, until hot and cheese is melted.

Notes

  • Cook chicken quickly on high heat to maintain tenderness and juiciness in the dip.
  • Sauté onions and peppers over medium-low heat to soften without burning, enhancing their natural sweetness.
  • Use softened cream cheese for an easier, creamier blend with other ingredients.
  • Serve hot from the oven to keep the cheese melted and dip at optimal texture for scooping.
