Hot Honey & Basil Pepperoni Pizza Dip
Description
Hot Honey & Basil Pepperoni Pizza Dip combines multiple familiar pizza components in a warm, layered dip. First, a cream cheese and Greek yogurt blend is spread at the base, offering a creamy, tangy layer. It’s topped with a standard pizza sauce, a mix of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, and pepperoni slices that melt and bubble during baking. Accompanying the dip, thinly sliced baguette rounds are brushed with an herbed olive oil mixture and toasted until just golden and crisp.
Once baked, the dip receives a final touch of hot honey drizzled over the top, adding subtle heat and sweetness, and fresh basil ribbons for herbal brightness. The result is a rich, cheesy, and savory dip with a contrast between soft layers and crispy baguette bread, suiting casual gatherings or snack times where pizza flavors are welcomed in a different format.
To serve, use the toasted baguette slices to scoop generous amounts of the warm dip. The recipe includes notes on making your own hot honey by warming honey with hot sauce or cayenne pepper, and suggests alternative dippers like toasted pita or naan if preferred. The dish demonstrates a balance of textures and flavors through layered ingredients and a baked finish.
Ingredients
- For the baguette:
- 1 French baguette cut into 0.5 inch diagonal slices
- 1-2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- salt for sprinkling
- For the cream cheese & yogurt layer:
- 8 ounces cream cheese plain, softened
- ½ cup yogurt plain, Greek
- ½ teaspoon salt plus more to taste
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon oregano dried
- For the sauce layer:
- 1 cup pizza sauce quantity: 8 oz
- For the cheese layer:
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded, or Italian cheese blend
- ¼ cup Parmesan Cheese or pecorino romano, grated
- ¼ teaspoon oregano dried
- 18-20 pepperoni slices
- For topping:
- 6 basil leaves, cut into ribbons
- hot honey brand example: Mike’s Hot Honey
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- In a small bowl, mix together olive oil/melted butter with garlic powder and salt; brush both sides of the baguette with the mixture. Add baguette slices to a large baking sheet and bake for 8-10 min until slightly golden around the edges. Keep heat in the oven.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, greek yogurt, salt, garlic powder and dried oregano until well combined, smooth and creamy.
- Spread cream cheese yogurt mixture on the bottom of a greased 9 inch skillet or an 8x8 pan. Spread 1 cup pizza sauce on top, then sprinkle both mozzarella/italian and parmesan cheese on top. Finally top with pepperoni slices. Bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Place under the broiler for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is just SLIGHTLY golden on the edges; make sure you watch VERY carefully as pepperoni can easily burn!
- Remove from the oven and drizzle with a little hot honey and then top with basil ribbons. Use your crostini for dipping and enjoy! Serves 6-8.
Notes
- Make homemade hot honey by warming honey with hot sauce or cayenne pepper if store-bought is unavailable.
- Substitute baguette crostini with toasted pita, pita chips, or naan as a dipping base.
- Brush baguette slices evenly with olive oil or melted butter mixed with garlic powder and salt before toasting for optimal flavor and texture.
