Hot Pepper Cranberry Jam

Hot Pepper Cranberry Jam combines fresh cranberries cooked with sugar, cider vinegar, and water into a tangy, sweet base. Adding minced jalapeño peppers introduces a spicy kick that contrasts with the berries' tartness, resulting in a spreadable jam suitable for sandwiches, cheese boards, or glazing dishes.

Description

This Hot Pepper Cranberry Jam starts by boiling fresh cranberries with sugar, water, and cider vinegar until the berries burst and the mixture thickens. The cooking process melds the tartness of the cranberries with sweetness and acidity for balanced flavor.

Minced jalapeño peppers are stirred in after cooking to retain their heat and freshness, adding a lively spicy note that complements the fruity base. Once cooled, the jam solidifies to a spreadable consistency perfect for serving with bread, meats, or cheeses.

The jam keeps refrigerated for up to two weeks and can be frozen for longer storage, making it convenient as a seasonal condiment or gift. It offers a creative twist on traditional cranberry sauce by incorporating fresh heat from the peppers.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1-2 jalapeno pepper seeded and minced (leave the seeds in if you like more heat
  • 12 ounces Cranberry fresh, rinsed
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Rinse the berries and put in a pot. Add the water, sugar, and vinegar. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently. The berries will start to pop, so stand back a bit. Once the sauce has come to a boil, it will be foaming and the berries will no longer be popping, turn down the heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Take off the heat and stir in the minced peppers. Let the sauce cool completely. Then transfer it to clean jars. Refrigerate until set. Cranberry sauce firms up as it cools, and eventually it will be of a spreadable consistency, perfect for sandwiches and cheese plates.
  3. Jam will keep up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator. Freeze for longer storage.
