How to Boil Eggs

This method for boiling eggs results in fully cooked eggs with firm whites and yolks, using a gentle simmer and an ice bath for easy peeling. The approach ensures uniform cooking and an easy-to-remove shell, suitable for snacks or recipes requiring hard-boiled eggs.

Description

Begin by bringing water to a rolling boil in a medium pot. Gently lower eggs using a strainer ladle to avoid cracking. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook eggs for 15 minutes. After cooking, transfer the eggs into an ice bath for 5 minutes to halt cooking and facilitate peeling.

Once cooled, lightly tap the eggs on a countertop to crack the shell; this method allows the shells to come off neatly, leaving perfectly cooked eggs inside. This reliable technique produces firm whites and yolks appropriate for a variety of culinary uses.

Hard-boiled eggs can be stored peeled in an airtight container or a sealed bag in the refrigerator for up to one week, helping with meal prep and convenient snacking.
