How to Cut a Pineapple

This guide details how to cut a pineapple starting from removing the top and bottom, then peeling the outer skin while following the fruit's contour. After peeling, the method involves quartering the pineapple and removing the tough core before slicing into the desired pieces. The approach emphasizes careful trimming to ensure only the yellow flesh is kept, avoiding the tough skin or core parts.

Description

How to Cut a Pineapple explains step-by-step how to prepare a fresh pineapple for eating or cooking. It begins by removing the top and bottom ends to create stable bases. Then, standing the pineapple upright, the skin is peeled off in vertical strips, cutting just deep enough to remove the outer layer but keep the flesh intact. The pineapple is then quartered lengthwise, allowing the central core, which is hard and fibrous, to be cut out from each wedge. Finally, the quarters can be sliced or chopped as needed.

The process results in clean, core-free pineapple pieces ready for serving or further use in recipes. The technique helps avoid wasting edible flesh while effectively removing inedible parts.

Leftover pineapple pieces can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days or frozen for up to three months, maintaining freshness and flavor for later use.

  1. Start by removing an inch of the top and bottom of the pineapple
  2. Stand the pineapple up, using a sharp knife, starting from the top, and following the contour of the pineapple, carefully peeling the skin off.
  3. Continue to peel the pineapple, taking off 2-3 inch wide pieces of the peel, being sure to cut deep enough to see only the yellow flesh
  4. The tough core of the pineapple is in the center and about the circumference of a quarter. Cut the pineapple in quarters from the top to the bottom, then remove each wedge of the core with a straight cut downward.
