How to Cut Dragon Fruit

This guide explains how to cut dragon fruit by halving it and scooping out its flesh. Three common cuts—thin slices, wedges, and bite-sized cubes—are demonstrated to prepare the fruit for eating or presentation.

Description

To cut a dragon fruit, slice it lengthwise on a cutting board using a sharp knife. Carefully scoop out the flesh with a large spoon from each half, discarding the skin. The flesh can then be sliced thinly, cut into wedges following the fruit's curvature, or chopped into bite-sized cubes from wedges, depending on preference.

Each cutting method prepares the fruit for serving in different ways: thin slices are suitable for salads or garnishes, wedges are easy to handle for snacking, and cubes are convenient for mixing into fruit salads or desserts.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 dragon fruit

Instructions

  1. Lay the dragon fruit on its side on a cutting board. Using a sharp knife, slice the dragon fruit in half lengthwise.
  2. Use a large spoon to carefully scoop out the flesh into two large halves. Discard the dragon fruit skin.
  3. Cut into desired shapes and sizes. These are my favorite three cuts:
  4. Thin slices: Turn the dragon fruit cut side down, then cut thin slices crosswise from the top to the bottom.
  5. Wedges: Turn the dragon fruit cut side down, then cut wide slices around the curvature of the dragon fruit in the opposite direction as the top and bottom of the fruit.
  6. Bite Sized Cubes: Follow the steps for cutting the dragon fruit into wedges and then cut each wedge into bite-sized chunks.
