How to Cut Lemons & Limes

This guide explains how to cut lemons or limes into slices and wedges suitable for drinks or garnishes. It covers the basic steps for creating even slices by trimming the ends and slicing crosswise, and for wedges by trimming ends, halving vertically, removing seeds, and quartering each half. The instructions provide options for adjusting wedge sizes and removing pith for better presentation. It also includes a note on storing cut citrus to maintain freshness.

Description

How to Cut Lemons & Limes offers clear steps for preparing citrus fruits for various uses in cooking and beverages. For slices, trimming the bottom and slicing the fruit crosswise yields rounded segments ideal for garnishes or infusing water and cocktails. For wedges, removing the top and bottom, standing the fruit upright to halve, deseeding, and then slicing each half into quarters provide manageable pieces suitable for squeezing or serving with dishes.

The instructions note removing the pith from wedges if desired, to reduce bitterness and improve appearance. These straightforward techniques maximize the usefulness and aesthetics of lemons and limes in presentations.

Storing cut lemons or limes covered and refrigerated for up to two days helps retain their freshness and juice quality, allowing for prepared citrus to be kept on hand for immediate use.
