How to Cut Romaine Lettuce
Description
The process to cut romaine lettuce begins with washing the heads thoroughly to remove dirt and shaking off excess water. The lettuce is then halved lengthwise, which exposes the core. Cutting the core out at an angle removes the tough, bitter center section. The halves are positioned cut-side down and sliced lengthwise again into two or three sections depending on the lettuce's width.
These long sections are then cut crosswise from the end where the core was removed into bite-sized pieces appropriate for salad or serving. Washing again after cutting is optional but recommended for extra cleanliness. This straightforward approach yields evenly sized pieces that makes romaine easier to eat and incorporate into recipes.
