How to Grill Pork Chops
Description
To prepare the pork chops, olive oil is rubbed onto both sides to prevent sticking and promote browning. Seasoned simply with salt and black pepper, the pork retains its natural flavor. Grilling begins with two-minute sears per side over medium-high direct heat to produce grill marks and a slight crust.
The chops are then moved to indirect heat and cooked with reduced heat to an internal temperature of 145°F, ensuring a safe and juicy result. Resting the chops for 5 to 10 minutes after removal allows juices to redistribute throughout the meat. The finished pork chops are warm and ready to slice and serve.
This straightforward approach works well for a classic grilled pork dish. It can be served as is or with complementary sides such as vegetables or salads. Marinades or additional spices can be added before grilling to customize flavor.
Using a meat thermometer is recommended to avoid under or overcooking. Leftovers store well refrigerated in an airtight container for several days.
Ingredients
- 4 pork chops bone-in
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the grill over medium high heat (approximately 450 degrees F).
- Rub the olive oil on both sides of the pork chops.
- Sprinkle the salt and pepper on each side of the pork chops and rub it into the pork.
- Place the pork chops directly on the grill (on direct heat).
- Grill for 2 minutes per side. Then move the pork chops to indirect heat (upper rack).
- Reduce the heat to medium and cook for another 10-15 minutes until the pork chops reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees F.
- Let the pork chops rest for 5-10 minutes on a plate before serving and cutting.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Use an instant-read meat thermometer to confirm pork reaches 145°F before removing from grill.
- Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to five days.
- Marinate pork chops with preferred seasonings before grilling to add variety.
